Find And Search For Videos

Find your own video

How to locate videos you’ve uploaded in search results and your Video Manager
If your video isn’t showing up in YouTube search results, it may be because it can take a couple days for a video to update if you just uploaded, changed, or removed it.

If it’s been a few days and you still can't find it in search results, here are a few troubleshooting tips:

Use search filters to refine your search.
Improve your video tags to help your video surface in searches.
Check your Video Manager to see if any of your videos have errors.
Otherwise, if you’re simply not sure where to find all the videos you’ve uploaded, click the drop-down arrow next to the "Upload" button on the YouTube homepage, then select Video Manager.

Viewing History

Delete your YouTube viewing history
How to delete your YouTube viewing history

Find videos you recently watched by clicking Watch History on the left side of the YouTube homepage or Guide when you’re signed in.

To see what you previously searched for on YouTube, check out your search history. Learn how to manage your search history.

Delete watch history

Here are some ways to manage your watch history:

Select individual videos to remove by using the check boxes and clicking Remove
Delete your entire history with the Clear all watch history button
Pause your history by clicking the Pause watch history button. Any videos you watch when your history is paused will not show up in your watch history.

Detailed watch history won’t appear unless you're signed in, but you can still delete your history by clicking Clear all watch history.

Find and delete search history

If you're trying to find a particular video you looked for, search history may help. Your search history lets you see what you previously searched for on YouTube.

To access your search history, click the down-arrow next to the Upload button, select Video Manager, then click Search History on the left side of the page.

You can also visit the search history page to remove individual searches, clear your entire history, or pause your history. It's likely that your browser also saves your search history, so learn how to clear your browser's history.

Search for videos with captions

Videos with captions available will have a “CC” icon underneath the video summary in search results. If you’d like search results to only show videos with captions available, enable this search filter:

Enter your keywords in the YouTube search bar
Click the Filters button
Click CC (closed caption)

Type with a virtual keyboard

How to search in other languages using an onscreen keyboard
If you use a language that requires special characters (e.g. Arabic, Greek, Thai), enter more precise search terms in YouTube by using the virtual keyboard.

The virtual keyboard is only available for certain languages.
Click the keyboard iconKeyboard icon in the YouTube search bar to display the keyboard. Move it around by clicking it and dragging it.
To use the keyboard, just click the keyboard with your mouse, or type the corresponding key on your physical keyboard (not all physical keyboards are compatible).

To display more characters, try clicking Alt+Ctrl and the Up arrow key on the keyboard.

Advanced search (Filters)

When you search for videos and other content on YouTube, you can refine your search by using filters.

After typing your search query in the search box at the top of any YouTube page, click the Filters drop-down menu below the search box.

Filters
You can filter by the type of content (e.g. video, playlist, or movie). For example, if one cute cat video isn’t enough, you can find an entire playlist of cute cat videos by clicking Playlist under “Result Type” in the Filters drop-down menu.

How to use search filters on different devices

Some search filters may not be available on all YouTube mobile apps.
Mobile browser (m.youtube.com): Touch the drop-down menu next to the search box
YouTube for iOS: Touch the filter filter results icon
YouTube for Android: Touch the filters   at the top of the search screen results

Watch Cards

Watch Cards are a collection of videos that are most popular based on a specific search topic. When you search for videos on YouTube, Watch Cards are displayed along with other relevant search results.

For example, a search for ‘Michael Jackson’ would return the following Watch Card:

Watch Cards are automatically generated by YouTube and cannot be created, edited, or deleted by users.

Welcome to the homepage

How to find your way around YouTube
If you’re new to YouTube or haven’t signed in, when you visit YouTube’s homepage, you’ll see some of YouTube’s most popular videos and highlights from YouTube’s top categories, like Music and Sports.

To upload your own videos, make playlists, and more, sign in to YouTube by clicking Sign in at the top right corner of the page.

Once you’ve signed in, YouTube will look a bit different. Here are some the most important parts of the homepage that you should know about:

Feed

The feed is the center column of the homepage, and it’s where you’ll see videos from channels you’ve subscribed to, as well as personalized video recommendations.
Guide

Located on the left side of any YouTube page, the guide is the section where you can access all of your favorite content with one easy click.
Account links: In the top section of the guide under your account name, you can quickly navigate to your own channel, playlists, videos you’ve liked, and watch history.
Subscriptions: Underneath the account links, you’ll see a “Subscriptions” section. If you have any favorite channels (for example, if there’s a cooking show you really enjoy watching on YouTube), this is where you can access their content if you’ve subscribed to their channel. If you want to change your subscription settings, click Manage subscriptions, located underneath the “Subscriptions” section on the left side.
Browse Channels: This is where you can find new and recommended channels. You can also find new channels in the “Recommended Channels” section, located on the right side of the YouTube homepage.
Google and YouTube settings

To change your settings or sign out, click your account name in the top right corner of the page. Once you’ve uploaded videos, this is where you edit and manage them.

The Guide

The Guide is your companion around YouTube from the homepage to the watch page. The Guide consists of the following components:

Account Links

This area provides quicker access to the links you need. Here you can quickly navigate to your channel, your playlists, videos you have liked, your watch history and even access those videos you saved to watch later.

Feed Views

From this area you can select the different ways to view your feed. Your default view is What to watch, a highlights view of uploads and activity from your subscriptions and videos recommended for you from your watch history. You can also select one of the other view options to see videos from your social connections or videos from your subscriptions. If you select My Subscriptions, you can also adjust your subscription settings to view all activity from the channels you are subscribed to or Uploads Only.

Subscriptions

If you have favorite channels on YouTube, you can highlight these channels over on this side navigation bar for easier access. Clicking on one of these channels will populate your feed with all of that channel's activity.

Subscription Options

In your subscription options, Browse channels will take you to a menu of channels for you to check out and subscribe to. You will see channels recommended for you as well as top channels in categories such as Music, Comedy, Gaming, and more. You can also visit Manage Subscriptions which allows you to edit which activity you see from your subscriptions, which channels you are subscribed to and the email notification settings for each channel. You can learn more about your options in our article for the Subscription Manager.

Collections

Organize and manage subscriptions with collections
A collection is a group of subscriptions you can create to help you organize and view content from the channels you’re subscribed to. Collections can be created by themes (like ‘basketball’ or ‘music’).

Create and manage collection

To make a brand new collection or edit an existing one, visit your Subscription Manager, which you can navigate to by clicking Manage subscriptions from the left side of your YouTube page.

Here’s how to create a new collection:

Visit your Subscription Manager.
Click the Create new collection button.
Name your collection and select the channels you’d like to include in your collection. You can add the same channel to different collections.
To remove a channel, click it again
Click Save when you’re done adding channels.
Find and access your collections

Once you’ve created a collection, you can easily access it on the left side of your YouTube page (The Guide), under “Subscriptions”.

Clicking your collection will populate your feed with only items from the subscriptions in that collection.
